Fanciful forms found in the sand



So whaddaya think, Bruce K.? A plover? Ha! As soon as I saw this rock in a patch of ice, I thought of you. Farther on down the beach, another ice patch had melted into (appropriately enough) something resembling the remains of a fish. Or a mermaid. It was an interesting morning of photography. The first image looks a lot like Mono Lake from the air, reversed.

Yes, it's probably the very rare Oregon Ice Plover--immature male in non-breeding plumage. Did you call the local Audubon people....LOL
